    • TEDxTt2009 Update: Jennifer Kaban, Camille Israel, Nadine Qureshi, & Eric Ma

Jennifer Kaban, Camille Israel, Nadine Qureshi, and Eric Ma’s talks got released recently (I got caught up in my second midterm rush so I didn’t have a same day update :( Sorry!), so I updated my previous post and added their videos. Be sure to check them out!
    • #074: RIP, brolly.

Currently listening to: “Alejandro” – Lady GaGa Brolly, you had been the best of companions. And now you rest in the garbage can in the Gage lobby, alongside your fallen compatriots, a mere shadow of your glorious polkadotted past. Just like your predecessors, you served well in times of desperate need (not forgetting times of less [...]
    • Umbrellas

I have so many observations to share with you.  I know you’re excited. While I struggle to stay alive with my broken umbrella, until the end of the week when my parents shall bestow upon me another one, I have to conform my schedule to the Community Shuttle.  Even then, there is a brief walk from [...]
    • Nothing fancy. Just Shmancy

Like the title says. I’ve been making a fair number of blog posts and I do plan on continuing that, but I really don’t have anything to talk about today except for the fact that it is my brother’s birthday. So Happy 14th Birthday Derrick! (not that you’ll read this…I think). Give him a nice birthday [...]

    • CARL Awards to UBC Librarians

From the press release: “…the CARL Library Education Working Group that reviewed the applications awarded three research grants of $2000 to Dean Giustini (University of British Columbia) for his project titled “Canadian academic librarians and their use of social media; a two-phase survey“, to Laura Briggs (University of British Columbia, Okanagan) for her project titled [...]
    • November – E-Books: we’re getting closer and closer

We have been spending more of our book budgets on e-books lately. Rising campus enrolments make space in short supply, and prompt libraries such as David Lam to send their older, less-used collections to the Automated Storage Retrieval Unit in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, in order to free up space for learning activities. [...]
    • LING 101

I'm interested in taking LING 101 as an elective next term with Strang Burton but I actually don't really know much about the course or the prof, and I can't find him/her on Rate My Prof. What is the class generally like in terms of the work we have to do, and what's Dr. Burton's teaching style? Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can find the registrar? Thanks.
    • Giving back to the community and feeding the soul

      Hello Friends,

I am pleased to invite you all to the the Nepal House Society of Vancouver's 2nd Annual Open House on November 21st, 2009 at the Roundhouse Community Centre (corner of Davie and Pacific, across the Roundhouse/Yaletown skytrain station), from 5:00 - 7:30 pm. This is an organization that I devote a lot of time and energy to, and it is a chance to find out more about our society, and our sister society - Nepal House Kaski - in Pokhara, Nepal, which is providing therapeutic counselling for traumatized children in Nepal.

At our Free Open House you will be able to meet board members, drink chai and eat some snacks, as well as view some pictures and videos of our house and Nepal in general. We will also be having some art work and crafts available for purchase.

Just last month two of our board members climbed to Mt. Everest Base Camp to raise money for Nepal House, and both will be there to share their photos and their experiences!

We hope that you can come and find out more about our work, and how you too can be involved and support this important work. You will also have the opportunity to sign up to become a member of Nepal House Society.

We look forward to seeing you there. Feel free to check out our website for more information about our organization: www.nepalhousesociety.org.

If you can please reply if you are able to come, and how many guests you would like to bring to help us with planning, that would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to pass this invitation on to anyone else you think may be interested in learning more and joining us for this event. I know not everyone lives in Vancouver, BC, but keep us on your radar regardless, and if you know people in my neck of the woods, let them know!

      Thanks!

      Sabu
